The Jequitinhonha Valley (Vale do Jequitinhonha, in Portuguese) is located in northern Minas Gerais. It comprises a little over 80 municipalities, totaling approximately one million inhabitants. Culturally, it is one of the richest and most diversified regions in the Country. Between the barrenness of the land and the simplicity of its people, a genuine and liberating artistic potential arises.
We acknowledge the art of Jequitinhonha in the tradition and resilience reflected in its handicrafts. They are examples of beauty, inner strength and celebration of diversity, wealth and ancestry of the people form Minas Gerais.
In this room, you can see several pieces of ceramics from the Jequitinhonha region, made by local artisans, many of which are globally acknowledged nowadays.
